I bought this book to learn how to fix the horn on my 1999 Saturn. Unfortunately the book doesn’t mention horns at all. There just aren’t enough details to be able to fix many problems.
I am not a mechanical person. I found this to be helpful, I liked having the pictures to show me what to do.
A decent book for the motivated do-it-yourselfer. I am definitely glad I bought this book, as there were several key things I hadn’t considered – like disabling the airbags before working on the electrical system in the console. Pretty easy to read and follow for a non-auto-mechanic.
I accidentally bought the 1991-1998 version of this same manual, although I have a 1999 Saturn. Even though the 1991-2002 version of this book covers more model years, it is thinner and has less detail. There are several points where I find myself referring back to the previous book (1991-1998) for pictures or a more detailed description of something.
A good, if not entirely complete service manual. I’ve found it’s best to have the Chilton & the Haynes manuals together to get a real sense of how to fix what’s ailing your ride.
i keep it in my car, it might not the exact manual for my saturn sc1 but it really helps me a lot because i am a DIY person.

beats paying double to triple for a new one. had grease stains, but its a repair manual so that is ok
I bought this book for my 97 saturn, more specifically for the torque ratings for the brakes. It was pretty good I know it covers a lot of years which is why I guess the pictures in the book show the calipers on the back side of the disc. It was pretty good expect the pictures and instruction weren’t one for one, but you can easily get the idea from it. I know there is a know chilton for older ones but I figured the newer one had better info in it.
From past experience with other cars, and one Chilton’s manual for a previous car, I’d rather have a Factory Manual – but since Saturn went belly-up, that just wasn’t possible.
I’ve only done one significant disassembly / reassembly so far, so can only judge by that one – but this manual pretty much covered it okay.
At the same time I ordered the Chilton Manual I also order a Haynes Manual …because one reeviewer recommended “getting both” to get the benefit of the best coverage.
After looking at both, there are only several small differences I could find so far:
1) Chilton’s type seems to be in one font size larger, which makes it easier for my eyes to read. So I’m giving the Chilton manual one (1) more star, simply for that difference…
2) There are differences between the two in terms of where many of the specifications – like Bolt Torques for different sizes, for example – are located. But it’s there, somewhere, in both.
Not having done more “procedures” I can’t say for sure, but I can’t see a difference between them.
As a metter of fact, BOTH Haynes and Chilton Manuals have a photo in the very front showing “Photographer, author and mechanic with a 1991 Saturn” …and it’s the IDENTICAL Photograph – same guys, same car!!
