Despite the many advances women have made since the internal combustion engine was invented, there is still one widely held belief that won’t seem to go away: that when it comes to cars, women should just leave it to the men. In Essential Car Care for Women, ESPN NASCAR pit reporter Jamie Little and Discovery Channel “Turbo Expert†Danielle McCormick team up to dispel this myth once and for all—and to offer the indispensable, hard-won advice women need to buy, sell, and care for their cars with confidence.
With this handy guide, women will learn how to save themselves money by performing basic—but essential—maintenance tasks on their own. Little and McCormick explain what an alternator, regulator, distributor, and timing belt are; how to change a tire, recharge a flat battery, check the oil, and assess tire pressure; what to do when a car breaks down or when an accident occurs; how to buy a car without being taken advantage of; and more. Straightforward and easy to follow—and including simple step-by-step diagrams and pictures to help along the way—Essential Car Care for Women is the ultimate handbook to everything a woman should know about her set of wheels.

Although we ladies love our men to help out with stuff sometimes, it doesn’t mean we don’t like to take care of things ourselves too. What’s great about this book is it takes a topic that most women have little to no background on, and puts it in a format that is easy to understand and thorough. There is nothing I despise more than feeling out of the loop on things- especially when it comes to things I have to pay for. Getting fleeced by a mechanic is no fun and after reading this book, it will never happen again! Essential Car Care for Women rocks 🙂
This book is long overdue and I purchased several for my friends to keep in their cars. I think auto dealerships should include this book as a gift when any car is sold to a lady.
Although it’s a little embarrasing to admit as a man, I don’t really know much about cars and car maintenence. I’ve occasionally been lucky enough to have a friend or relative help me out, but more often I take it to a mechanic and wished for the best. I’ve never been armed with the information needed to make informed decisions and, most of all, know what’s really required (vs. when I’m being taken advantage of).
This book solved that.
Now, while I may not start doing all of my own maintenence, I do feel confident about what work is reasonable (and around what price), what services are rip-offs and, most importantly, I know that I’m not going to line the auto shop’s pockets with money due to my ignorance.
Do yourself a favor, ladies or guys, and get this book so you can stop getting ripped off!!! When I read it, I recognized the times I had been gullable and was suckered. It makes me mad still, but it won’t happen again!!!
So happy I found this book, it’s everything I could ever need to know in serious or not so serious situations involving a car! It’s informative and clear enough for the everyday person to understand and follow. Not overwhelming at all and the picture examples are helpful as well. A small price to pay for a lot of great information, I highly recommended throwing a copy of this in every car!
This guide truly is essential for every lady to have in the glove box. In easily explains all of the common ailments most of us face, but many do not know how to fulfill. My girlfriend loves it and makes for a lot less late night emergency calls from her to go out and fix her car :).
It also tells you how to maintain your car properly so that you will extend the life of your car, and prevent failures.
And it is all done is a stylish colorful way so everyone can understand. a MUST buy
What great information, It had enough detail for an expert but simple enough for a car novice. There is nothing on the market like this. It’s a must buy for every family.
At first I thought it was a little sexist to have a car book ‘for women’ but realized it’s just a great intro to car engines, transmissions, brakes, etc., that doesn’t assume the reader knows any jargon to begin with. (Okay there is a lot of pink and purple in the graphics — which apart from that are excellent!) Most women just didn’t spend their childhood hanging out with dad in the garage. This book is really all you need to understand how cars work; definitely enough to ask your mechanic good questions until you understand what he’s telling you.
