I wish this book had more pictures. You really kinda have to know cars to know what they are talking about. I find better info on youtube then this book. But it is good in the sense you can reference what your truck needs.
I have been using Haynes Owner Manuals for years. When I buy a vehicle, I buy the Haynes. I have already used this manual for several repairs, including replacing a marker light, a dome light, and a power mirror. The instructions are always very logical and orderly, and all you have to do is follow the step-by-step to do your repair or to maintain the vehicle. There are also illustrations, specifications, and a schedule of when to do oil and filter changes and the like. For the price, it’s a great investment. Even the person with minimal mechanical skills will be able to use it, and maybe even do things that you didn’t know you could do.
Just as I expected, this manual had easy to follow instructions for almost all of the do-it-yourself repairs. Numerous pictures and diagrams also help. Defiantly worth the money.
I purchased this truck manual needing information on my 2000 Ford Ranger 4/4 . It has no information on the rack an pinion steering or the front suspension system . It’s got tons on 1993 to 1997 but not 2000 . I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone . Buyer beware .
I must of missed something over the years-I thought Haynes wrote good manuals. This one stinks. Lacks important specific information (like fuse and relay identification). I found imcomplete or nonexistent information for most of the repairs I wanted to accomplish. I’m not sure why I haven’t thrown the manual in the burn pile yet…
I have this manual and related year truck. The manual covers some topics, and completely ignores others. For example, there is absolutely no coverage or the under-hood power distribution box which is full of fuses and relays. Not a word and not a diagram and not a picture! Even the “wiring schematics” ignore this. How is that possible? Really. Save your money and spring for the actual dealer manual. Yes, it costs a lot more, but it contains everything.
I’m not a fool when it comes to car repair, but I’m not and expert either. Thus far, I haven’t found this manual particularly useful in doing my own repairs. The problem is lack of detail. There are a lot of truck repair tips that need to be fit in this small manual, and so all the instructions are very lean. What I need is pictures, people! Now there are some picture, mind you. But just showing me a small black and white picture of the area of the engine I’m dealing with isn’t going to get me there. I need arrows, and step by step pictures. You need to tell what that value you are telling to twist looks like, because there are a lot of things here I can find here to twist off. The manual also applies to two decades of trucks in multiple models, so the pictures you see will not always correspond with your model and year. All in all, it can make for a very confusing trip under the hood.
This manual is good for routine repairs like oil changes, head lamp replacement and such. However the instructions are rather vague, so for more complex procedures it would be helpful if you had previous car repair knowledge (or a different manual). The pictures are also kind of confusing as they are unclear and lack contrast and it lacks an in-depth index. The information provided is accurate if you can parse it, but the Chilton manuals tend to be much clearer and easier for the layman to understand.
Book arrived quickly. It was better shape than listed as a used book. Very helpful addition to my library. The entire transaction was tremendous.
I always recommend that people buy the haynes or chilton book for their car so they alway have an idea of the problem before the put themselves at the mercy of a mechanic.
